Now, they can only be street legal provided they meet certain regulatory requirements, and your township allows golf carts on public roads.

What Differences Between Standard Golf Carts and LSV Golf Carts

Well first there isn't much of a difference I mean hey they're both golf carts. However the difference between a standard golf cart and an LSV golf cart is in the versatility of use. Your traditional golf cart can typically have a maximum speed of around 15 maybe 20 miles an hour and usually they're not equipped with the necessary safety features to be driven on public roads, think of a whole think of that whole going to the store thing. Low speed vehicles or LSV golf carts however are uniquely equipped with headlights tail lights turn signals rearview mirrors and especially seat belts and they also have a vehicle identification number or VIN making them compliant with the federal and state regulations for low speed vehicles.

Benefits of Owning an LSV Golf Cart

Upgrading your traditional golf cart to an LSV golf cart has many advantages. 1st the ability to drive on public roads provides an amazing amount of flexibility and convenience, no more are you going to have to waste a gallon of gas for short trips around the neighborhood going to the grocery store or hey even going to your little golf course. Additionally, LSV's are very environmentally friendly they produce 0 emissions and reduce your carbon footprint (if that's something you're into).  I mean hey, are we’re all into saving the planet right? Street Legal Golf Carts are also very cost effective they require less maintenance, they have lower operating cost, and many communities and resorts are becoming more golf cart friendly. This makes the LSV golf cart a practical and enjoyable option for your transportation as well as recreational needs.

How Fast Do LSV Golf Carts Go?

That's a great question. Typically, LSV's are designed to travel much faster than your traditional golf cart. Your traditional golf cart can travel anywhere from 15 to maybe 20 miles an hour Max. Street legal golf carts on the other hand, and go anywhere from 20 to at Max 25 miles an hour. Now, this may seem a little fast especially if you have little ones, But this range is ideal for neighborhood and community driving. And it provides a safe and efficient mode of transportation.

Different upgrades and designs can affect the speed of your LSV, however. This includes the weight of the vehicle the weight of your batteries the terrain you're traveling on and different weather conditions. But, compared to standard golf carts LSV's offer a noticeable improvement in performance and versatility, making them way more fun.

What are the Legal Aspects of LSV Golf Carts

Does an LSV Golf Cart Need to Have a Title?

Yes, LSV golf carts do require a title. But this is true with any other street legal vehicle even that loud Honda Civic that keeps going up and down your street. LSV's must be registered with your local DMV. There is a process for obtaining the title and it varies from state-to-state call and generally you will need to provide proof of ownership such as the bill of sale and meet all the safety equipment inspections. Fortunately, legacy golf carts provide you with all of the information that you need when you purchase a new LSV from us. It is important to check with your local DMV for the specific guidelines and you want to make sure that your LSV golf cart complies with all regulations.

Are All Golf Carts Street Legal?

Not all golf carts are created the same. Your standard golf cart can be driven around on local residential streets that are part of a golf cart community. But they are not typically equipped with the necessary safety features and do not meet regulatory requirements to be driven on more public roads outside of that community. For you to make your golf cart street legal it must be classified as an LSV with your local DMV.

The criteria that it must meet are these: your vehicle has to have headlights, taillights, turn signals, rearview mirrors, seat belts and VIN. Also, your LSV golf cart must be capable of reaching speeds of at least 20 mph but cannot exceed 25 mph. Again, it is important to consult your local laws and regulations and make sure you are compliant, so you avoid any legal issues. At legacy golf carts we ensure that you understand the whole process before leaving with a vehicle from us

FAQs about LSV Golf Carts

How Long Does an LSV Golf Cart Battery Last?

LSV golf cart battery lifespan depends on the battery type. If your car is equipped with lithium-ion batteries your car can last anywhere from 5 to 10 years. If you have traditional lead acid batteries, they usually last around three to five years. With regular maintenance, proper charging, and refilling you can extend the life of your lead acid batteries but a lithium-Ion battery is by far a better choice. Fortunately, all Royal EV's and  Denago EV's from legacy carts come equipped with standard lithium ion upgrades.

Can LSV Golf Carts Be Used in All Weather Conditions?

LSV golf carts can withstand more extreme weather conditions than your traditional golf cart. But we don't recommend taking it out in a lightning storm for obvious reasons. While they can drive in light rain and on wet surfaces, you do want to avoid driving through deep water or extremely severe weather conditions (think tornado). You can buy additional weather enclosures to protect you from rain, wind, and Colorado’s cold temperatures, this will make your LSV golf cart a lot more versatile in different weather conditions.
